ADAM Keys & Remote

Car Key & Transponder Programming

Modern vehicle keys aren't just metal — they contain a transponder chip that must be paired to your car's immobilizer before the engine will start. ADAM Keys & Remote programs car keys on site for vehicles across Manassas, Manassas Park, Woodbridge, Fairfax and Northern Virginia.

Transponder Key Programming

Most car keys built since the late 1990s contain a transponder chip. Even if the blade is cut perfectly, the car will not start until the chip is programmed to communicate with the immobilizer. We perform both onboard programming (when supported by the vehicle) and PIN-protected or EEPROM programming for tighter-security systems.

Smart Key & Push-to-Start Programming

Push-to-start and proximity smart keys add a comfort-access layer on top of the immobilizer pairing. Our technician handles both the security pairing and the remote functions (lock, unlock, trunk, panic) so the fob works the way the original did. See our smart key programming page for details.

Add a Spare Key for Less

Programming an additional key while you still have a working key is much cheaper than an all-keys-lost job. A spare also prevents a future emergency lockout. See duplicate car keys.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is transponder programming?

Modern car keys contain a chip that must be paired to your vehicle's immobilizer. Even a perfectly cut key won't start the engine until that chip is programmed. We program transponder, smart, and push-to-start keys on site.

I bought a key online. Can you program it?

Often yes. We'll look at the part you bought and tell you honestly whether it's compatible with your vehicle before you pay for programming.

How long does key programming take?

Most key-programming jobs take 15 to 45 minutes on site, depending on the vehicle and the number of keys being added.

Can you add a spare key to my car?

Yes — adding a spare while you still have a working key is much less expensive than an all-keys-lost job. See our duplicate car keys page.
